Los Angeles, CA (November 2011) – Life can be cruel and life can certainly be unforgiving. However, with the help of God, one can overcome even the toughest and excruciating obstacles of life. One moment you are broken and beaten down, crying out for help to mend a shattered soul on the steps of a church. The next, you are helping those, who were in your same exact position, seek God for a glorious and saved life. This was the beginning of Mark Marquez’s steps towards God. Before he was the lead singer of Shake the Nation he was broken and had everything falling apart as he entered the presence of Bay Area Fellowship in Corpus Christi, Texas. From there on out, his life would be changed forever.

Seven years later, Mark is now the worship pastor of the Bay Area Fellowship as well as the lead singer of Shake the Nation (the worship band for BAF). It was thanks to Dave Hanley, the lead singer of the Christian pop/rock band Press Play and the founder of Dream Records who immediately signed them on with Dream Records after he listened to their demo of their first album. From there, they realised this was the perfect opportunity to get their music to the public outside of their tangible reach.

In addition to Mark Marquez as lead singer, Shake the Nation consists of guitarists Aaron Hernandez and Sal Romeros, Executive Pastor of BAF Paul Schultz on drums, Isai Lugo on bass, Phillip Borden on keyboard and John Leal on the drums, guitar and vocals. Each of them has been broken in the past and their greatest goal is now to reach the lost with their music, especially the younger generations.

With their second and newest album, Colliding Grace, their objective is such and each song was created from the overflow of what had been happening in each of their lives reaching out from Corpus Christi to all over the world. Such songs as “God of the Impossible” and “Bruises and Scars” from this album bring a very raw truth and reality to life and explain how we should push through the hard times of struggle instead of just getting out of it.

Their music is not the same you hear every time and each song has a different story behind it. Whether the meaning of their music comes from the inspiration of God and what he has been showing them at a certain time in their lives, or if it was from stories they hear from those at their church, their music has proven to inspire and comfort those who have listened to it. “There was one instance where one person told me that they were contemplating suicide at one point in their life, but after to listening to our songs over and over, they ended up coming to our church and defying those thoughts,” explained Mark on how their music has influenced others’ lives.

Throughout the years, Shake the Nation has worked with and opened for some of the most popular Christian bands out there including the likes of Casting Crowns, David Crowder, Jeremy Camp, Press Play, Rachael Lampa, Lincoln Brewster and many more. Their last album, which proved to be very successful, charted at #6 on Christian Albums billboard, 14 on Indie Albums Billboard, 18 on Alternative Albums Billboard and 30 on Rock Alternative Billboard.

As for now, they are focusing their efforts at home spreading the word through thousands of attendees weekly at the Bay Area Fellowship, which has proven to be very successful and has grown exponentially in the past few years.

As for a future album, Shake the Nation writes new songs constantly and once God opens up another opportunity for them to create an album, you can bet you will be hearing about that as soon as possible. If you do want to see the band and you are nowhere near Southern Texas, you can always catch Shake the Nation leading worship at the Bay Area Fellowship on Time Warner Cable Ch. 18 at 5:00 p.m. CST on Mondays and Wednesdays and 5:30 p.m. CST on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Or you can always catch them on Sunday mornings at BayAreaFellowship.com.
